What is a SUM Book Date?
A SUM Book Date is a mystery reading experience. You choose the kind of story you're craving, tell SUM a little about your reading preferences, and we choose the book. The title and author stay hidden behind beautiful wrapping, spoiler-free clues and thoughtful little touches until you're ready to meet your date.
Are the books new or pre-loved?
Both! SUM Book Dates may include brand-new books or carefully selected pre-loved books. We believe great stories deserve another date. Every pre-loved book is individually checked by Summer and must meet our gift-worthy condition standards before becoming a SUM Book Date.
Can I choose my genre?
Absolutely. You'll be able to choose the kind of reading experience you're looking for and share preferences that help SUM make a better match. The exact title stays a mystery.
Can I tell SUM what I don’t want?
Yes. Tell us about genres, themes or reading preferences you'd rather avoid. We'll use the information you provide when choosing your Book Date.
What if I’ve already read the book?
We'll ask about books you've already read and use that information to help avoid duplicates. We can't guarantee you'll never receive a title you've encountered before, but the more you tell SUM, the better we can match your date.
Can I request a specific book?
Not for a traditional SUM Book Date. The mystery is part of the fun. You choose the reading experience and preferences; SUM chooses the date.
Can I send one as a gift?
Yes. SUM Book Dates are designed to make memorable gifts. You'll be able to tell us who the Book Date is for and share information that can help us personalize their experience.
What comes with my Book Date?
Every package level may be a little different. Depending on the Book Date you choose, your experience may include mystery clues, beautiful wrapping, bookmarks, handwritten touches, reader treats, little gifts and SUM surprises. The product listing will tell you what is included without spoiling the mystery.
What is a “SUM Secret”? 🔑
Some Book Dates may contain a sealed surprise you're not allowed to open right away. You might be told to wait until a certain point in your story before opening it. What's inside? We're not telling. That's between you and your book. ❤️
Can I order again without getting the same book?
That's the goal. We keep inventory records so we can help avoid sending returning customers the same Book Date twice. Make sure you order using consistent customer information so we can identify your previous dates.
New Stories & Pre-Loved Favorites ♻️
Pre-loved does not mean worn-out. Summer personally checks each pre-loved book and only books that meet SUM's gift-worthy standards become Book Dates. We want every package to feel special from the moment it arrives.
